What an incredible day, no jet lag and we were full speed ahead! Our first stop was the Waikiki Aquarium. In comparison to the Boston Aquarium, this one is smaller in size, however it makes up for it with the quality of the exhibits which are beautifully displayed and provide exposure to the wide array of sealife found here in the islands. Very impressive!
Behind the aquarium, the deep blue ocean waters sparkled as the sun danced over the white water waves. The sands of San Souci Beach were calling our names as we walked, so we spent the afternoon in the sun, sand, and surf relaxing with our family. Good conversation, good company... I didn't think it could get much better than that...
Except that tonight we did something that was over-the-top exciting. We went for a night snorkel at Hanauma Bay. The stars and the moon appeared in the night sky, sporadically covered in clouds. Because we were so far above the beach below, the view from the top of the ridge made the underwater flashlights look like fireflies floating in an open field. As we made our way down to the water's edge, we could make out the outlines of the swimmers searching for the tropical fish that swam in this little cove. Once we arrived on the beach, we donned our snorkel gear, grabbed the flashlights, and off we went into the warm waters. The view under the surface was somewhat murky due to the high tide and heavy surf that had taken place all day, but we were still able to locate some of the brightly colored fish as they swam in and out of the coral. We were sure that many more were hiding, but the water was choppy, making it feel like a washing machine rather than What an unbelievable experience! Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
